ELDER ZACK WHITNEY

Alma 29:9

I know that which the Lord hath commanded me, and I glory in it. I do not glory of myself, but I glory in that which the Lord hath commanded me; yea, and this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy.

New Assistant to the President

New Assistant to the President
There are three of us (assistants) right now, but Elder Saenz goes home in like three weeks, so it will just be me and Elder Tilley my last 8 weeks or so.
I love being AP. There is a lot of pressure and stress sometimes and a lack of sleep, but seriously it’s so so so cool. Definitely one of the biggest blessings I could have ever received on my mission.

December 20, 2010

Hello Family,
This week was pretty good, I’m glad you got my presents, Was the chocolate and stuff a little old tasting? Well I guess you will tell me on Saturday. I’m going to buy a card today, we still don’t know where we are going to call from.. We haven’t got your packages yet so I’m pretty sure they will come on miercoles. Were are going to the temple tomorrow as a zone so we are going to have the zone class on Wednesday. We are going to call like at 11 St George time Saturday,, Is that all right? What time is maddy going to call home? I’m going to buy a bigger calling card this time cause they always run out of minutes for the connection fee. On the 26th we are going to have 2 baptisms, so its going to be really cool. One of them is this girl named cati that is like 25 years old. She didn’t really want to get baptized and she was afraid to do it in the start, but we called her in the night on Tuesday and told us she had been reading and stuff with her friend that is a member and that she was going to get baptized. It was so cool, it seriously was like a miracle. She has felt the spirit really strongly and has felt really calm and tranquila lately. Another person that is going to get baptizes is named Umberto, He is a kid that has 9 years and he is really cool... Well I really don’t want to write a whole lot cause we will be talking on Saturday I wont be able to tell you anything new.. ha so I will just wait until Saturday... I love you family and I hope you have an awesome Christmas!! I’m excited to talk with you guys! Chao!!!

Hello Family,
How was the Christmas party? Sounds like it turned out really good, That’s awesome you can spend more time now with Brent and Ellen now that they are our neighbors. This week was pretty good, it went by way fast. We had our Christmas activity on Thursday, It was pretty good, it wasn’t as good as last year but it was still awesome. All the zones in the south met up in this plaza in the morning and a bus took us to this field. As a mission we did zone Olympics. We only played two games though, one of them was this relay race where we all had two crawl and make a tunnel with our bodies then go threw it one by one. Then we had to carry water from one bucket to another bucket using this little cup until it filled to a certain line, then the zone leaders did the wheelbarrow walk thing back to the start, We took second I think it was way fun though. Then we all split up into teams and we had this soccer tourney. Our team was way good but we lost the first game in a shootout. Then we got back on the buses and went to this church were we changed and ate then listened to president give a devotional thing, then we watched its a wonderful life.. I always slept through that movie when you made me watch it on Christmas eve, but it was actually pretty good, everything is better when your on the mission ha-ha. Before the activity, on Wednesday we got together as a zone and we made a dog as a centerpiece out of newspaper and stuff, it was way funny.. We also made shirts and stuff that had the name Puente alto on it.That’s really cool about that missionary and that family in Guatemala. Really we are so blessed. We have some many opportunities living in the united states with good jobs and cars and boats and being members of the church. A ton of people here don’t have much. A lot can never go to a university or college cause its way to expensive, and a lot don’t have cars or any of that. Thanks mom for sending Elder Vargas a package I’m sure he will be really happy.
I’m going to send you a number to call and an address that is by the Sand hollow pool.. This sister missionary that was in my district went home to get surgery on her hip but before she went home I gave her some stuff to give to you.. I don’t have the address or the number with me right now, but this week I will email it to you real fast.
Right now we don’t have anyone with a baptismal date but there is this girl we are teaching that should get baptized soon hopefully. She didn’t go to church this week cause she was sick but ya.. We have some others but they aren’t really progressing.
Thanks for everything mom, I think I might get my package tomorrow!
I love you guys, have a good week!

December 6, 2010

Hello Family!
This week was really good, the only bad day was on Saturday, I was like dead that night I don’t know what happened to me, I was way stressed and a little depressed but now I’m all good.. Being zone leader is pretty awesome, At first it was a little weird cause I was one of the youngest in the zone but now all the new guys got here and its awesome.
This week we had a meeting by the temple with all the zone leaders and the president, and it was amazingly good. Our mission has a goal of 77 baptisms this month so we can break the record of number of baptisms in one month and in one year. Were going to do it as our gift back to Jesus Christ. Were doing really good so far, we need at least 7 as a zone and we already have 5 so were doing pretty good. Me and elder Vargas have to teach the zone class that we have every Tuesday and stuff like that. We take all the stats too and pass them along to the assistants. I have done 2 interviews as a zone leader already, but I had done like 2 or 3 before that as a district leader. They are pretty sweet. Its cool talking to people alone and hearing everything they know and how they have changed.
I have never been in this zone before, My other zone was Gabriela, its close though. Last Monday my comp did this big Argentinean barbeque and we grilled chinchulin.. Or in other words.. cow intestines.. I tried it and it was pretty good, I didn’t eat a lot though cause there was this weird juice inside.. or in other words poop and pee. When it was being cooked it would like squirt out all these juices. Today we did a barbeque too as a zone, it was pretty good.
This week we were waiting for a micro by the metro and I saw Christian Contreras, my convert that I haven’t seen in like 9 months. It was so awesome, we talked for a little cause he was in a hurry but it made me way happy, he was way happy too. It was funny cause the last time I saw him I was with Vargas.
That’s pretty cool the bathroom is almost redone, our house is going to feel like a mansion... it is a mansion..
We didn’t watch the 1st presidency message, I didn’t even know when it was transmitted. I wouldn’t say my comp is way poor but I’m not sure if he’s going to get a package, I’m sure he would love it if you sent him something. He like resees and resees pieces..
Wow the jazz are doing awesome it sounds like, so are the Packers, that’s cool that BYU is even in a bowl game. I’m going to find out when we are going to call and everything so you know at what time..Thats cool your going to the Whitney Christmas party, I bet its going to be really weird without grandpa..
Muchas gracias familia por todo lo que hace por mi, que esten bien esta semana,
¡Chao!

November 29, 2010

Hello There,
It was a pretty good week, I really like the ward its way awesome, I already new like 2 families that live here before coming so I got a good welcome with cake and all this stuff from this one lady that elder Tilley converted. She’s still not baptized cause she has to be divorced and married first, but she is way nice. Its really weird I’m zone leader cause there are still a lot of elders that are older than me.
In the picture is Elder Simbaña from Ecuador. I’m with Vargas from Argentina.. I’m sure I sent home a picture of him already. I will send home another one. There are going to be 5 new missionaries tomorrow that are getting here from the untied states so that should be pretty cool. Ha-ha that’s funny that Singing is branch president. I have heard they do that sometimes in places like that.
To be honest I didn’t even remember that it was Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving. The thought didn’t even come to my mind.. I didn’t make anything either cause I don’t have any money left. I got a package from the Meyers though and it had candy and taco stuff and recces puffs so that was way awesome, I’m going to write them a letter soon, they are way cool. That’s so crazy that Mitch came home like months ago.. I cant believe he is in Virginia too.. that’s like way close to where he served.. That kind of sucks cause I probably wont be able to see him when I get back.. It has been really hot here, but its all good cause I like the heat sometimes.. We played soccer with these flaites (gangsters) on Thursday, it was way fun, We are going to play soccer again soon. My comp is like professional, he is way good.
Gosh I’m mad about BYU. Good thing I didn’t see it or I would have killed someone. That’s awesome though the jazz are doing really good. They sound like they should go far this year. I just want like some of the guitar BHSS recordings.. You can just email them to me.. ya you just attach it like a picture.. I’m glad you had a good thanksgiving.. Brent told me a little bit about it.. Thanks family for all you do!! I’m excited for the package.. I love you guys!
Chao.

Hello dearest family,
It was a crazy week... well more like day. Last night we had changes, and I was totally expecting to stay only having 3 weeks in la Florida, but they called me and told me was going! So packed my bags and am zone leader now in Puente alto with my OLD comp Elder Vargas de Buenos Aires. That’s crazy huh? I have never even heard that happening. We were just comps like 6 months ago. I cant believe I am zone leader either.. Its going to be really awesome though I’m way excited.. I am going to miss my old comp Elder Tooley though. We got along awesome and were like best friends. But its all good, me and elder Vargas get along too, he is way awesome. The name of that girl i baptized is Tatiana riquelme, and in that other photo the other two kids are my brothers elder Call who goes home today, and elder cuevas, my old zone leader in la reina. Ya i don’t have my camera this week cause changes were really crazy but i will send lots of pictures this next week. Hmmm in my Christmas package I’m good on music so don’t worry about any music just so you know.. garments no cause i can buy them here.. I love fast breaks... Some fruit gushers would be cool.. Take everything out of the boxes though so there is more room :) I want some of the songs me and my friends have recorded. I know its on the computer under BHSS, but you can just send me those songs on Email. I cant really thing of anything else.. Just American candy.. Here i will just tell you what American candy already is in Chile so you know what not to get. Twix, snickers, skittles, 3 musketeers, and all gum. That’s pretty much it.. I would love maybe an electronic dictionario for Spanish.. or there is this chilenismo book that has all the Chilean words and phrases and stuff. That would be cool. That would be cool if you went tot he grand canyon with the Lindquist’s.. how is Ryan doing? where is he at? That’s really good your business is doing good though.. I’m kind of bummed cause we were going to have a lot of success in la Florida. There was this lady that were teaching that is going to get baptized next week, she has pretty much read the whole book of Mormon and she has only known the missionaries for like 1 or 2 months. I cant believe that 40% of the stake is inactive.. at least its not like here in Chile.. The other day i was in a ward with an inactive x stake president.
I’m so glad that the packers beat the Vikings again. Mike is probably way mad ha-ha. That would be awesome if BYU beat Utah you guys got to send me highlights or something... I mean Stats and stuff. Thanksgiving always makes me trunky for football. I cant believe I’m about to have my second thanksgiving in Chile. Were probably not going to do anything but its all good. Keep praying lots for me so i can be a good zone lider.. I’m kind of nervous. I have tons of responsibilities and I’m in charge of a ton of people!!
Well i love you family! ¡Mama siga estudiando español.. Comprese un libro de gramatica o algo, eso le ayudaria bastante. Voy a seguir escribiendo oraciones en español en el fin de mis cartas para que pueda practicar un poco en el truducir!

November 8, 2010

Querida familia, This week was really good, we had a lot of success, and the ward is pretty sweet. Me and my comp are getting along great, he seriously is way awesome. He is way funny.. He is probably one of my favorite comps yet.. That’s really cool that the bishop wrote you guys in English. He doesn’t really speak English so it probably took him a while to do it. That’s crazy that Ben challis already came home, and ya that would really be so crappy not being able to play sports. There was this zone in my mission that played rugby last week, so hopeful we do that again soon. It would be so fun. My comps name is Elder Tooley. I will send a pic of him....
In those pictures its... Paulina Contreras- convert from Gabriela.. The wig is just some random wig that was at the church one day. and in that other photo. Its me Elder Valverde, Elder Tilley and Maxfield after church one day.
Don’t worry about garments or socks cause I can get all of that here.... I’m still kind of thinking what I want I’m not sure... Why is Levi going to Bermuda? I though his mission was the new York mission? that’s way cool though that he is going to an island..
I guess this ward just had its first two baptisms since January.. but right now we are teaching this 24 year old kid that’s way awesome. He should get baptized next week. so I’m really excited about that. This other really cool family has been helping us with him. Were also teaching this other lady that has a fecha for the 28.. She has already read up to alma in the book of Mormon and she loves it. Yesterday it rained forever, and its finally starting to clear up.
The weather has been really crazy, its like way hot and then it will rain in Santiago and cover the mountains with snow.. Its so beautiful though when it rains. this morning we went to this place in our sector that has free massage beds ha-ha. Its like a free 45 min massage on these heated beds. It was pretty sweet.. I don’t understand why they are free though. My comp takes like amazing photos, he is like a professional I swear. I will have to send you some one day.. Well I got to go, but I love you and see you next week! Chao! Elder Whitney su hijito P.s ¿Como esta tu castellano mama? ¿estas estudiando un pocito?I really need to start working out more.. its so hard in the morning. i have definatly shrunk a ton...

November1, 2010

familia,
Well well just start off with the big news for the week. Today president called me and I got special changed again. This is my fifth one. It was funny cause today we actually did an activity with another zone and the other kid was there who I replaced. I guess the elder that left this sector had this girl pretty much stalking him and sending him gifts and stuff through the mail, so they just got him out of there to protect him. It was so random. When pres called he was like well elder Whitney according to what your mission has been like so far, what do you think is going to happen? And I was like hmmm well I would have to say special changes, he told me that its just like any other change. In fact they pray to know who should be changed and they said that time after time out of all the missionaries, its always confirmed that it should be me. He said the lord trusted in me a lot and president said that too, and that he admired me for everything that I was doing. So at least that one made me feel better.
There are some members in my last ward that are going to hate me for not saying goodbye. I’m going to have to write them a letter. My ¨Mom¨ and Viviana are going to cry!! I’m going to miss them so much, they are awesome. I’m going to miss the bishop too..
I guess this ward had its first two baptisms last week since last December, but I’m excited to work here, I learned so much in my other ward about how to work with members and stuff and how I need to teach to be able to make people want to be baptized.
Maddie sounds like she is tearing it up, that’s so awesome, I’m way happy for her! Thanks mom and dad for the package! The insoles are doing awesome and I already ate all of the candy. I’m excited to make tacos though. My new comp is from Tennessee and he is older than me. This is his second change so igual, he is really new.
Yesterday we went to Luis house cause he didn’t come to church cause he got drunk!! so I poured out his 2 liter thing of wine that he had ha-ha. He better get baptized soon.
Last week one night I was praying specifically to know if there was someplace I should go in my sector to do contacts and stuff and I swear it was like Google earth, I saw this street and it turned the corner and we went down the street and stopped at the corner. So a few days later I went to the corner before lunch, and there was this lady standing outside and we talked to her and she told us she new everything about all the other churches and didn’t like any of them for all the corruption there was. But then she said, I have never heard anything about your church though. I would love to hear your message.. so my comp and the other elder are going to pass by this week.
Well I love you family! chao! To answer your questions yes they do celebrate Halloween but its still new here so nobody knows how to do it right, People gave us candy in the street it was cool.. Chao!!

October 25, 2010

Hello dearest family,
This week was pretty good , it was actually really long and a little hard forsome reason but the work is going pretty good. The Luis guy we are teachinghas a fecha for the 7th and he came to church this Sunday. But right aftersacrament meeting he peaced out. We went over that night to see how he wasand he was a little drunk... so that is a little worrisome. We haven’t taughthim the word of wisdom yet so... we should probably teach that soon. Thebest converts are the ones you find, teach and baptize so I’m really excitedfor his baptism. It will be so awesome, cause this sounds really pridefulbut I found him contacted him taught him and going to baptize him all in like amonth. He was way prepared. hmmm watch he probably wont get baptized nowha-ha just for saying that.
That’s good that Brigham’s leg is doing better, andthat he had a pretty good birthday. I would kill to be able to eat crab legsand a GOOD steak. Don’t get me wrong the meat here is good but its just...dry and they don’t use any sauce or anything. Is Lance going to study and allthat now? Are they still pretty set on getting married when she gets back?
That’s awesome that the packers beat Favre and Lambeu. What happens in therewhen he is in that stadium? I bet everyone wants to kill him. That’s coolthat BYU won too.. As long as they win a couple that’s perfectly fine withme.
Today for P-day we played basketball with some elders. We had a prettysweet 5 on 5 game going. It was way fun, I am so out of shape though itsridiculous. On Sunday this girl Daniela got baptized, she is way awesome, she read the entire book of Mormon in like a couple weeks. Me and elderTilley actually taught her for a while and me and Briscoe would sometimespass by. But she chose me to baptize her and it was really cool. Well I don’thave a lot of time today but I love you family, que esten muy bien

October 18, 2010

Hello Family!
This week was pretty good, but on Sunday our investigators and our less active members we were working with dropped like flies! it was a little disappointing cause I thought we were going to have a ton of people at church this week. Its amazing how flakey some people are, especially when you call them Saturday night, tell them that your going to pass by in the morning, and they promise to come, then when you pass by they aren’t even there! Its all good though, its the start of a new change! Elder Tilley my old comp and a really good friend of mine left the sector, he had been here for almost 6 months. At the end of this change I will have more time then he did though its crazy, I have been here for a long time now. I really hope I stay until Christmas but I’m pretty sure I’m out of here at the end of this change. I love this sector I’m just having trouble find good consistent investigators! Ya the miners thing was huge, we always heard about that actually.. That’s so cool that all 33 people got outta there fine. Everyone is freaking out cause they think it has something to do with the end of the world. People here are obsessed with that.. Cause Jesus Christ died when he was 33, and I guess it was 33 days of something to with the whole mine thing ha.. Could be???
The earthquake definitely had something to do with it though.. Concepcion had to be cleaned a little for a house of the lord to be put there.. That really sucks about Brigham’s leg.. I’m really lucky I never pulled my hamstring, but the worst thing he can do is try and rush it, he might have to take it slow for a while to have it heal completely. Start working out Brigham! get huge..
Happy Birthday dad and Brigham!
I hope you guys have an awesome birthday even though one of them will be on crutches, What are you going to do dad for your birthday? I guess the CRUISE was pretty big ha-ha. That’s So crazy about lance I seriously remember so clear his farewell and his party that he had at his house, Looking at the pictures made my a little trunky, I cant even imagine what its gonna be like getting off the plane.. I still have a looong time though so its all good.
I figured BYU would get crushed.. they are really struggling this year.. Jake heaps definatly is struggling too it looks like .. Elder Sharpe our zone leader goes home tomorrow, I’m going to miss him we always talked about sports and stuff.. I heard that max hall is tearing it up for the cardinals? that’s so sweet, I heard they beat the saints last week too, that’s pretty legit. I’m not sure if I already wrote middy back yet or not, could you ask her?
Well thank you for everything I love you guys a lot and hope you have a really good week!
Chao! Elder Whitney

October 11, 2010

Hola Como Estan locos,
This week was pretty good, we did a lot of knocking and stuff to find new investigators cause I swear we teach a lot of people lessons and its way good and powerful but it doesn’t even interest them or something and they are way hard to find again.
Summer is coming, I’m actually excited though, it has been pretty hot lately but it feels really good. That’s awesome that it rained there a lot this week, ST. George needs it. Ya the arch supports would be awesome, I think the pain in my leg is pretty much gone now though. We played soccer today against another zone and it was way fun, my leg wasn’t hurting so that’s good.
The family in the top picture is Viviana and Arturro. We went and painted their bedroom one day for a service project. They are our investigators and they are the family for who we cooked French toast with and went with them to take out an appointment for their wedding. They are so awesome, I really hope I’m here for their wedding. Viviana is the one that wrote me this huge note and was thanking me and ya it was probably one of the best things I have ever gotten in Chile. They always used to fight but now they have been reading in the book of Mormon and praying together and they are going to church and they both know they have to get baptized.
The little girl is probably one of my favorite little girls in Chile, she lives in my old sector Puente Alto. She is the daughter of their recent converts that actually fell away for a little after getting baptized but now they are doing really good. She seriously is the cutest little girl ever, she used to come sit by us in sacrament meeting.
The fat chubby kid is Christian. He is crazy and is always yelling and running around. He is the son of Christian and Paulina in Puente Alto.. our converts.. And the last one is Alonso who is the son of Arturo and Viviana. We have a pretty big pool of investigators right now but most aren’t progressing too well.. Our sector is a little hard.. Lets just say there’s like 2 inactive return missionaries and a completely inactive bishop and his family. And the wife of the old bishop. More than 1000 inactives...
Everyone knows the missionaries. There’s four here. Smallest mission in the world, a small sector.. no one is like well educated and everyone just gets wasted. Its really poor.. I got shot in the head the other day with an air soft gun ha-ha.. Ya our current bishop is way awesome, I’m not sure if I showed you the thing he gave me.. its a sponge bob missionary ha-ha its way cool.
Ha-ha that’s cool that you are learning Spanish.. here I will type a couple things for you to translate and practice every week. El otro dia yo estaba caminando en la calle, y vi a un hombre completamente emburachado. El nos acercó yo besó nustras manos. eso siempre me pasa. Yo he sido besado por burrachos muchas veces ya en mi mission. For the christmas packet maybe some acne spot medication would be nice. I cant really think of anything else right now but I will keep thinking. Yes they do celebrate Halloween but its new here so they suck at it...
Choa querida familia les amo mucho. Que esten muy bien, y que tengan una buena semana

October 4, 2010

Hello Family! This week was pretty good, it was a little interesting too. The conference was awesome though, I watched it with all the other missionaries in the stake center, we had are own little separate room where we watched it in English, so that was cool. Our one investigator sandre came and she loved it.. The thing is last night she told me that she is moving to another ward a little bit more up the hill from where we live! so that is a little crappy. I don’t really care as long as she gets baptized soon. Cause the hermanas that are in the ward to that which she is going are still in my district so that is good at least.
Conference gets better every time I learn more about the church, cause I fell in love with studying the gospel and the church and all that. I loved the talk about the personal line and the priesthood line, and I loved the talk that Eyring gave in the priesthood session. It was way awesome.
We haven’t had the chance yet to teach that family of the guard who we met. We actually have an appointment with them on Wednesday so hopefully it turns out good. This week we went to take out a wedding date at this place with this couple we have been teaching for ever. We went over there at 9 in the morning and I made everyone French toast with syrup and they freaking loved it. Nobody down here has a clue about any of the good stuff that we eat in America! they have never tasted syrup, peanut butter, French toast, waffles or anything before. Then after that we went and took out a date for them and they are going to get married on the 5th of December so hopefully I stay until then, were going to have to see though.
That’s sweet you started a Spanish class, if you have any questions you can ask me! Ya BYU has nobody on their team this year.. I feel bad for them.. that stinks that the packers lost to the bears.. They are 3 and 1? you should send me like pretty much the articles and stuff now that its sports season. My comp is doing pretty good, he struggles a little with Spanish but still he just needs more time like everyone. Its hard to give him a lot of opportunities though.. cause its like I want the people to understand the message, cause if they don’t understand the spirit cant testify very much.
This week I was walking and like my muscle in the front of my leg by my shin started to hurt pretty bad. I thought I would be able to walk it off but it kept getting worse. Friday I couldn’t leave cause it was hurting pretty bad to walk.. I think I pulled that muscle and I cant like support my ankle or bend it, but I think I need arch supports.. I’m actually pretty sure that’s it, so that would be sweet if you could send me some arch supports. I’m not sure if there are any good ones here. I will be thinking of want I want for Christmas so I can tell you!
Well I love you guys and have a great week!! Here’s some more pics. Enjoy!
Elder Whitney

September 27, 2010

Hello Family! ???This week was pretty interesting... well last week too, its weird that I haven’t told you about the celebration or anything yet that feels like it was forever ago. Well Sandra and Ignacio didn’t get baptized! We had an appointment over there with the bishop and we went and nobody was answering and so we were waiting outside for ever and she finally called us and sounded like she was all sick. She told us that she took all these new medications cause she has depression and ya.. I feel bad for her cause she is going through a pretty tough time but ya she needs to get baptized!! I She has hade a baptism date forever.. But yesterday I baptized this 8 year old girl that is way awesome. She is the daughter of my comp here in Chile. (Jimena catalan) He is so awesome, she loves the missionaries.
These other investigators we have (Viviana and her husband arturro) are doing really good too. They always used to fight and stuff and weren’t a whole lot interested in the church but we have been teaching them for a while and they always go to church now and they want to get married to be able to get baptized. It was awesome though cause viviana wrote me this like huge letter and thanked me for everything and that she wanted me to be their at their wedding and stuff and she wants me to baptize her family and go through the temple with them. She is way awesome, I get along way good with her family. Arturo came with us last night to a stake priesthood meeting and it was way good, our president of the mission spoke and everything. I freaking love this ward, there seriously are the funniest people here. One of the funniest guys I have ever met is our 1st counselor and we are always joking around with each other its funny.
There are tons of way good members here. The 17th with our ward was way fun too, in the morning we played football at some turf fields by our church.. We played tons of little games and sports all day, and we ate some pretty good food and tons of meet. I forgot my camera today so I will send you some pictures next week. On the actual 18th we ate at jimenas house and just kind of chilled there then we went to clean the capilla (Chapel) with our ward, then we took once with them it was way fun. We couldn’t really do much those two days cause everyone was drunk and partying. Fireworks aren’t really legal here, so nobody has firworks..Then... its not over yet....
Today we had to move pensions cause they finally found a pension in our sector, we used to have to walk 30 min every night and morning to get to our sector. So now I live with Tilley again and his comp Rasmussen. They are way cool and funny, its going to be sweet living with them. It was way fun living with Boyce and shehan though. I can hardly recognize who those pictures are of.. It looks like the wedding was really good though..
That’s crazy that Kennedy is engaged.. that was way fast ha-ha...?Ya I have heard that BYU isn’t playing so good... O well when I get back next year they should be better.. There quarterback is a freshman right? I’m way excited about the packers though, keep me updated until they win the super bowl.. Well thank you family for everything! I love you and all the support I have! See you next week! chao ?/div> Elder Whitney

September 16, 2010

Hello family,
All of our appointments fell threw so we just decided to come do a little internet for an hour or so.. ha-ha no jk, everything is going to be closed for the fiestas this weekend and on Monday so president wants us to do internet today... But this week has been really awesome, we have had some awesome lessons and stuff, Sandra and Ignacio are going to get baptized this Sunday so I'm really excited about that, they are so awesome! She was actually going to be baptized last week but she smoked so.... but ya we have found some awesome people too. The lord is helping me fulfill to the best ability all my calling cause all of a sudden my Spanish got way better and it has just been easier and more fluent to talk. Today is my year mark! Can you believe it? A year ago you dropped me off at the MTC. Tonight we are going to make brownies with vanilla ice cream to celebrate with elder Boyce who also completes a year. This morning we made some French toast and more syrup with that mapleine you sent me. Thank you! Its so good. You should sign up for a Spanish class and buy a book of Spanish and start working on it to be able to communicate when I get back. Se me olvidará todo de mí ingles. Yo hablo terrible mal en ingles ya. Tomorrow we are going to play football as a ward and just celebrate at the church all day. Then Saturday just mess around with the members and our investigators I guess. I have no idea what we can do. Who do the Packers play next, tell me by how much they win by next Monday.. Well I cant think of anything else to write cause it hasn't been that long since I wrote you last time. I hope everything is going good for you guys! I love you! tell me when Mitch comes home. Chao! Hola Familia! My first week as a trainer was pretty good, its pretty crazy though being with someone that doesn’t know anything. I always forget and he probably is so confused all the time ha, I am going to be a bad parent. He is from Emmit Idaho and his name is Elder Briscoe. He is pretty tight, we get along pretty good. He speaks all right Spanish for a newbie, He just needs to practice and learn a lot more stuff. I have to teach and pretty much do everything so its making me work harder and I’m learning more stuff. Today for Pday it was pretty sweet. We Played flag football in this sick turf soccer field and we had tons of elders there from like 3 different zones. I love having the smallest mission in the world it is so awesome. We can meet up and do like whatever we want. It totally reminded me of playing back home with my friends. I was quarterback and our team dominated. I pulled an Aaron Rodger on the Eagles... uh sorry dad but the packers are going to do good this year. That’s disappointing for BYU though, hopefully that will make them focus a little this year in the end or something. I cant believe that football has already started, your going to have to give me like tons of stats. I got slapped by this stupid 15 year old girl in the street yesterday, it hurt, She seriously just walked up to me they slapped me and then ran off luaghing..So freaking annoying.. That’s to bad about Preston, sorry I told you that I would write him a while ago but I’m going to do it this week and send it off. Will you give me their address? I’m way excited for the 18.. Were going to play football as a ward the 17th so that is going to be way awesome. Sandra and ignacio are going to get baptized the 19.. They better be... She didn’t pass her interview cause I guess she smoked recently... Well I love you guys and I hope you have a good week! Chao! Heres some pics...O ya we went to ruby tuesday to celebrate today
(un año) with the 4 elders that were in my district. I had shrimp parmesan. It was awesome!

September 6, 2010

Hello Family! Well we had changes last night so I have some news to tell you, I’m not with Elder Tilley anymore but we are still in the same sector like before so we are going to keep seeing each other ever day.. But also I’m going to have a son! I’m training, and I’m going to get my comp tomorrow. Its a gringo, so pretty much next change I have to do everything! I’m kind of nervous, but I’m pretty sure I can do it. I really exited for this change cause we have a mission activity and the 18th is coming up soon. Its the 200th year of Chile so everyone is going to go crazy and be drunk probably. I’m going to be celebrating it with the ward and with some of my favorite members down there. She calls us her kids and always buys us chocolate! I’m really excited for the shrimp and cheese empanadas, they are way good. Today I’m doing divisions with elder Powell until we get our kids tomorrow. He was in my district in the MTC, but today we made some of the best fajitas that have ever had.
Ya I cant believe Nate carter is back already. That means Mitch is pretty much back to in a coupe days, hopefully he got my letter. My pinky toenails just got really bad when I started wearing my shoes after they got fixed, now they don’t hurt when I walk but when I do run around a lot they start hurting way bad, they are pretty much purple. Dot worry about sending the ensign talks cause we get the magazines every month, so there s plenty to read. Thanks though mom.
Yesterday we had a pretty sweet experience. It was like 9 o’clock and we didn’t really have anything else to do cause almost all of the appointments had fallen. So we decided to go to this contact we had made like 3 weeks ago. While we were walking there we turned the corner and a shot a glance at a couple houses by the corner. As we walked away there was something in my stomach that felt like it was growing inside me and telling me that I should go visit that house in one of the softest voices I have ever heard, I wouldn’t really call it a voice cause it wasn’t a physical voice that I heard with my ears, but rather this like thought that didn’t belong to me that was instantly planted in my mind and I my body, still allowing me to have all of my agency if I wanted to keep walking and disobey my feelings. So I just stopped and like groaned and was just like gosh ok...Elder lets go knock those houses over there. The first one.. nothing. the second.. nothing. The third that was on the corner.. this lady came out and we talked to her and her daughter for a while and they were extremely nice. After talking for a while we found out her husband was a guard for a department complex in front of Lider ( Wal-Mart). The same department complex and entrance that we walk through every single night and morning.
So that night we decided to stop and talk with the guard I there.. the same guard that the whole 2 weeks before we had been stopping and talking to him a little bit cause he was really cool. Well he was the husband and We told him that we found his family and he was pretty excited cause he had always seen us walking in and out and he had always been a little interested in what we did, especially after we had gotten to know him a little the last 2 weeks. The holy ghost guides this work as long as we strive to have hi with us!
I love you family, have a good week and will talk to you next lunes. Chao!

August 29, 2010

Hello Family! The cruise sounded way fun!, I can’t believe that you guys already went and got back, cause this last week was one of the fastest weeks of my life for some reason! It was really good, we have been teaching this guy that has know the church for a while but he just got in a divorce, but ya he got baptized yesterday so it was really good! He had to get a special interview cause his whole situation was really complicated. He’s actually living with this girl that he has had 5 kids with, but they are sleeping in different rooms. The only reason why he is living there is to help feed and support his kids. It was really complicated but everything turned out good!
Everything else is going pretty good, We had like 10 investigators at church and we have like 7 more with dates. Changes are next week so I’m praying that I will stay with Elder Tilley here in El vale.
Today for P-day we played soccer with another zone and it was way fun. Both my pinky toes are way jacked up though, the toe nails are seriously about to fall off. I cant believe its almost September! I feel like I haven’t done anything here on the mission! It really is like kind of sad that a whole year is already done, and after a year more I’m never going to have this same opportunity again.
This week we taught like this evangelical priest, cause we have been teaching his wife lately and she actually came to church last week! But seriously this guy got pretty mad at us, we were like owning him in doctrine and he won’t even pick up the Book of Mormon and read it. People seriously are so confused in this world. I was doing some pretty hard core studies in the old testament this week, and I seriously found some of the sweetest stuff and connections. There’s not a single doubt in my mind that this is the only true church and the only path that you can take to be able to live with God again. I have this like crazy thirst to learn now, I’m so excited to read tons of books when I get home from my mission. Well family I’m way glad you had fun on the cruise, mom you look really tan! You guys better start planning another cruise to go on when I get home! no jk. but I love you and have a good week! Chow!

Hello Family!
My week has been pretty good, it was a little crazy but still good. Next week or the week after Sandra and her son should get baptized, I’m thinking that they might need a little bit more work though cause we just found out that Sandra smokes a little and her baptism is in a week. We went to the temple with her and her son and daughter on Saturday and it was way good. It was so stressful though cause there were like 10 little kids! We had to take them all clear across town on two micros (buses) and the metro. I felt like I was babysitting all these little kids. Sandra really liked the temple though and she is working hard so that she can get baptized really soon. There were some other investigators and recent converts that went with us too, so it was really cool. We only had 5 investigators with us at church today but its all good cause the rest are still progressing and stuff.
The weather has actually been way nice, were starting to wear just long sleeve shirts without the jacket now. I’m thinking about buying one more suit coat for the last year or last winter of my mission. Actually all the suit coats are fine but its just the pants that look like crap now. They are like all shiny and have these stains on them that won’t come off. Plus a dog bit me so I have this way ugly patch work thing going on that a member did. How much did the suit coat and pants cost over there that I bought?
Are you really excited to go on your trip? When are you leaving? This September its like the bicentennial independence day so it should be pretty crazy. They have huge barbeques and everyone dances and stuff and they get drunk. Its going to be my first one but I heard its gonna be huge too. My ward is doing an activity so that should be pretty sweet
We have had that special capacitacion that just ended that was way good, but also Saturday 2 members of the 70 came and spoke to the missions east and north. . Elder Costa and Amado. It was seriously so good. Probably one of the best that I have ever been too. Elder Costa is hilarious. He speaks fluent Portuguese, English and Spanish. He told some of the most amazing stories that I have ever heard. Last night too we brought one of our investigators to another devotional for the young single adults. Elder Scott one of the apostles was supposed to speak but he wasn’t there so we heard from Costa again and it was awesome again.
That’s sweet that Brigham did really good again. How is Caleb doing in them? I can’t believe that about BYU, Any news about the packers? tell me who they drafted.. Tell me abut the Jazz too.. Well I love you guys and hope that you have an awesome trip. Espero que todo salga bie, un su viaje, y que se disfruten y relajen un poquito. Choa. Les Amo!!

Hello Family!
things sound really good over there, That would be nice to do a little hike like pine creek. I have been in pure city and concrete for a year! This week was really good, I had an awesome time with Elder Tilley. I definitely have to take advantage of my time right now cause I’m with an awesome companion. We get along way good but we are really obedient and we work hard together, and we are in an awesome sector with a lot of investigators. All of this week and the next week we have had a special capacitaccion. The mission gets to go to it, but for last week and next week only the zones in the north are going. Its three hours every morning. Our mission is the only mission in the world where everyone in the mission is going. All of the other mission in the world only the zone leaders are going. Its a huge blessing cause I’m learning so much and its making me a better missionary.

I heard that Mattie got change. I just got a letter from her last week and it sounds like she is doing really good. Elder Tilley is from Gilbert Arizona, and he has one change less than me. This week we didn’t have that many investigators at church cause it was really cold so that was a little disappointing. We still have five fechs though and a lot of progressing. That’s sweet that dad is going to be the contractor of Justin kites house. How is the ward doing? have there been any families that have moved out? Levi wrote me last Monday and he is doing really good, Finally! I finally wrote Mitch too, so I got to go send it tomorrow. this other lady in my ward that is way awesome tried to look for your face book. I’m not sure if she found it though. those peoples names are Christian Contreras y Paulina Contreras. I’m going to write them a letter soon. to see how they are doing. Well family thank you for everything! I love you guys and hope that everyone is doing good.

Hello Family! Things sounds good at home except with aunt Barbara. That is way sad, she definitely needs help and she needs to get away from all the problems that she has. What is going to happen to her now? She just needs to get away from her husband and from Hope and try and raise her two sons and get them on a good path somewhere. That’s really sad though what has happened to her..
So My bishop told me that he had sent you that video where I totally sucked at playing guitar ha. It was obviously bad if you thought I was singing in Spanish ha-ha. I have forgotten a ton but its all good. I was so confused though how he found your face book ha-ha. That’s way cool though that you are talking to him and everything. Someone else wrote you on face book too? Just put it into Google translator.. I’m really good friends with a lot of the members here in the ward. The bishop is way awesome too.

Well Today we were at this zone activity playing basketball and stuff and the assistants called on of the other elders in el valle and told him that he had special changes and he had been there for like 6 months so it was really weird and all of a sudden... Then all of a sudden the assistants called my phone and they said that we had special changes too! so my comp from Kanab is outta here.. It was way weird though cause he was only here for two weeks! Now me and elder Tilley from Arizona are comps. He is so awesome, I’m so excited to work with him. I really wanted to be comps with him at the end of last change. NOW we have so so so many investigators. Just between my comp and I at church yesterday there were 6 people. And we have 2 baptismal dates. Now we gain all the investigators of them too so we have like 15 progressing investigator and potential baptisms. I am way excited, but we are gonna be so busy with stuff to do.

This week we were walking down the road and we were kind of mad cause nobody was home and all our citas fell, and we didn’t want to go in a couple houses cause the girl was home alone. but all of a sudden I just stopped and looked across the street and was like hey lets go knock that house. So we got there and we entered and there was this lady that was pretty sick and she started to cry cause the medication were making her worse but we gave her a blessing and she wanted us to come back. We are going to have a ton of success the remainder of this change.
I freakin love elder Tilley too, he is way awesome. The girl we are teaching with her son are going to get baptized the 29th.. Well I love you family! thanks for all that you are doing. The bishop posted a new video that I took after church so you should go watch it. That’s way awesome that Brigham can run that far and that he is doing really good. Here is another video that you can watch! chao!

love you!Elder Whitney

Hello Family!

We had a really good week, it was kind of weird being the senior comp but things actually went pretty good. We had some pretty funny and weird experiences ha-ha. We were like walking and this random weird skinny guy with white hair walks up to us and tells us that he is a member, so we go over to his house and we talk with him and his mom and everything. But he told us hat he knows where a lot of other menos activos live and he wanted to show us them. So the next day we go wit him and he shows us some random house and we go in and taught like 3 new investigators that weren’t even members, and there all way awesome except they can never come to church on Sunday cause their family always comes over or something! But anyways it was rally cool cause we just got this new rule that we cant enter a house AT ALL if their isn’t a member of our same sex present. In Chile like almost half or our lessons are with ladies that are home alone. That guy said he could go with us to any lesson as long as it was past three. So now we have someone who can go with us. He like wants to dress up like us too, he told us that he has the jacket and pants but all he needs are the shoes. So me and my comp got these way sweet black shoes from a member and gave them to him. He’s pretty stoked.

We taught a lot of lessons this week too, we had like 9 with a member. We have a couple baptism dates too. Right now we are teaching a ton of people that could get baptized but they don’t come to church! its so hard! we have like amazing lessons with them and they are like oh ya I want to come to church and they they never come! Its so frustrating...My comp is pretty sweet. He struggles a lot in Spanish so I’m teaching and talking A TON now... He cant teach very good in Spanish so its like kind of hard to teach with him. I have to like re teach a lot cause the people don’t understand a lot. I’m learning a ton though and I think we are going to have a ton of success this change. I’m loving the members here too they are so awesome.

We had a talent night at the church and a lot of investigators came and stuff it was so funny. I played the guitar .... I mean I TRIED to play the guitar, I forgot like all of the words to hotel California though.. It was still fun. Well family I got to go but I love you have fun! I’m really jealous that your going on a cruise... You could take me next time on a Mexican cruise cause I know Spanish
Love you Chao! Elder Whitney

Hello Family!!
How are you doing. I’m doing really good, my comp is outta here tomorrow in the morning but I’m with my new comp right now. His name is Elder Jacobs and he is from Kanab Utah. Finally I get to work with a gringo! Its going to be interesting though. I was talking to a lot of the members and they all wanted a Latin to come. They are RACISTS. no just kidding I would want a latin to come to if I were them... They think its so much harder to communicate or something its so gay. I talked like the exact as my last comp only slower.
But ya elder Jacobs is way awesome, he has a change less than me. Our sector is full of young gringos.. We should have a lot of baptisms though this next change. I’m going to work really hard as my first change as senior comp. Last change was good, but I’m not going to lie, my comp was really trunky and we wasted a lot of time, it sucked.. I’m excited though, and nervous too.. We have like 4 or 5 people that could get baptized and I don’t want to mess anything up. I’m still not 100 percent confident with my Spanish either.. sometimes I have really bad days..
Last night I went to the temple with my comp, cause they have this little thing at the temple every change for all the missionaries that are going home, and so there were a lot of converts there. It was amazing to see, cause you could tell that there was something different in all those people. I know that they really were the people that were prepared by the lord to receive the gospel. I talked like an hour with these converts of my comp and wow they are amazing now. When she met my comp she told him that she would invite them in and give them a little juice, but she was never going to be a Mormon. Now almost all her family is baptized and she is like an amazing member. She loves the missionaries and the gospel and it was amazing to hear her and all the love she has now for Jesus Christ and the church. It made me want to work so much harder and talk to like everyone I can to be able to find the people that are prepared to hear the gospel.
I know that the restored gospel of Jesus Christ is the only path we can take if we want to be happy and receive all the blessings that God wants us to have. We found a couple more people this week, so hopefully they can progress and come to church. In the winter it is so hard for people to come because its so cold! Today in the changes meeting president gave a really good talk, and I was called a district leader. So now I have more responsibility to be in charge of a district. I’m pretty stressed right now but I think everything is going to to be all right. Well family I have to go but thanks for everything! I love you! Chao!

Hello Family! Thanks a lot for that story I think its going to help a lot. We had interviews this week with president and he told me that I was going to lead the sector next change so I’m pretty nervous about that.. I’m really excited though cause I can finally do things how I want. My comp has been a little disobedient and trunky this change so it has been a little hard for me to follow all of the rules too.. I think we are going to have a ton of baptisms next change though. I’m way excited to see who my next comp is going to be.. In my interview president told me that I have had so many Latin comps because I have that gift to get a long with Latin’s and with everyone. He said since I have used my gifts and talents I’m being blessed. We didn’t have any investigators at church again so that was a little disappointing but there are like 5 or 4 people that are on the brink of getting baptized. Today for p-day we went to cerro santo lucía. It was way awesome I will send some pictures.

It sounds like everything is all good in the STG. I cant believe school starts again over there. All the kids over here are on this winter vacation for two weeks. They get two weeks off for school just so they don’t spread around the winter flu... How gay is that?!?! Today I ate 9 pieces of pizza and I’m pretty full... We had like this little zone party today for some of the people that are going home this change... We haven’t moved yet out of our pension. I have no idea when its going to happen. I guess there are some others we found so it might happen this next change. Wed get to go to the temple again this Thursday.. We get to go every change now its way awesome.

This week we played soccer with some ward members and some investigators. It was so fun, I freaking love soccer now. I always want to play. We played for like almost 2 hours. I really love my ward. I have never met so many funny people. There are some guys that just always make you laugh. Our bishop is really cool too.. I’m going to make that list what those missionaries did so that I can have more success starting off as senior comp.. It definitely is hard to not think about stuff that you like to do, but its important that you don’t do it cause the holy ghost cant guide you to people that could be walking right past you if your thoughts aren’t always focused on Christ. Well mom and dad and Brigham and Caleb and Maddie, I love you have a good week!

Chow!!

Hello Family!
How is everyone doing? This week was really good, But I’m going to start out by listing off some things that happened TODAY. Easily one of the most interesting, sweetest days of my mission. 1. My whole body was inside a big bubble.2. I watched two white Asian tigers fight3. There are 4 more mushrooms growing in our shower.4. I shook hands and conversed with a midget dressed in redThis one was Wednesday night but5. I ate blood sausage.... Then got sick and threw up all that night. Today we went to this museum place called the MIM. Its like an interactive technology museum. It was so sweet. I will send you some pictures, maybe some videos if it doesn’t take to long but ya, they had so much cool stuff. It was way cooler than Epcot or anything like that. But ya about the tigers... There is a circus going on in front of our pension, and when we went shopping today, the white tigers were out in their cage and right when I pulled out my camera to take a pic, they started fighting hard core, it was awesome.
Well This week on the more spiritual side, we got a reference from our district leader and we went and visited them and its a mom and her 2 kids that were already taught a lot in another mission in Santiago, but they just barely moved and they are like ready to get baptized soon ha. Its way awesome. Its a blessing from the lord. We got there and she like walked out with her libro de Mormon and was like ya I’m preparing for my baptism and stuff. This Sunday they came to church too. Hopefully them and that other family we are teaching will get baptized at the same time. The other family didn’t come to church!.. but were still working with them. They have to come like a couple more times to get baptized. Last time we went to teach them though they pulled out this tea and there was like beer on the floor, so that is frustrating.
How was your 4th of July? I didn’t really notice down here.. Other than a couple people in our war said something to us.. (los gringos). This week we also had our zone conference. It was way good, i always love going to those things. President is so powerful when he speaks. this next change is going to be crazy. Anything could happen cause there are like 30 missionaries leaving within the next two changes and only like 4 arriving. We might have to move out of the pension we are living in right now to these way ghetto blocks in our sector. It will be nice cause we wont have to walk so far everyday, but we will probably robbed and killed. Ha no jk but a its a little ghetto. Nothings going to happen though cause we have tons of security.
Ya so these investigators gave me blood sausage and didn’t tell me what it was but it made me pretty sick for a day and a half. I’m ok now after getting it out of my stomach. Me and my comp are doing really well together, we talk mostly in Spanish, but ya he is pretty trunky since he goes home in three weeks. Everyone was pretty sad when they lost to Brazil, but Brazil is like one of the best... until they lost to another team... Chile never really was that good.. Well family thanks for everything! i love you and I’m way glad that lawsuit worked out and stuff! Bye bye!
Con mucho amor Elder Whitney

Gotta love those packages!

Hello Family!
Things are going really good here in Chile.. Its pretty crazy with the world cup, its like impossible not to watch any of it cause every house we go in and every time we eat lunch, the TV is like right in front of our faces. Chile just barely won today against Switzerland. We went to the mall this morning thinking that it was going to be empty because the game today... little did we know that the mall was going to be the place of this huge Chile party fest to watch the game on the big screen in the food court. I took a video, its so sweet.
I actually haven’t got the chance to listen to the cd you gave me yet, cause we don’t have a cd player, but I’m going to put it on my Ipod today finally so that I can listen to it. We didn’t really do anything special for my birthday, it didn’t even feel like my birthday, it was just another day.. I bought, vanilla and flour so I’m going to make German pancakes soon. I found some brownies last week and they were way good.
This week was pretty good, we didn’t teach a whole lot of lessons, but I still think we had a lot of progress in some areas. I’m way tight with our bishop and our lider misional. Our ward mission leader has long hair, with blue eyes, and he totally talks and laughs like a cereal killer. He is way awesome though. When the missionaries found him he got baptized in like 2 weeks, he was way prepared. I have to give a 15 min talk next week in sacrament, I don’t know if I’m nervous or not though... This week, a huge mushroom grew in our shower... it was way funny I took a video, there seriously is like nasty fungus everywhere.
That’s sweet that Brigham bore his testimony, and it seems like maddie is doing way awesome, I am writing her back, so hopefully I can send her letter when we go to zone class. I bought a jacket today at the mall, cause I don’t have one that isn’t for my missionary clothes, it was like thirty bucks soo..... para que sepan. I want to go golfing really bad, I miss that sport...
I heard the Lakers won, that sucks, I hate the Lakers, but whatever.. I knew that they were going to win, you can’t beat them. I heard Lebron is a free agent though? This member in our ward has BYU television and he showed us and I totally saw someone I know that was there at a girls basketball game, it was funny.
Yes my companion is from Ecuador again,... he is so awesome though, I don’t want to kill him this change, its going to make me feel really trunky. Me and this other elder are going to start teaching English classes at the church, its going to be really hard, but its going to be fun.. I feel good about my Spanish, it has been a huge blessing only having Latino companions. Well I got to go, but I love you dad and mom and family! Happy fathers day again dad, I’m really thankful for all that you have taught me and everything you give me!
Chow I love you guys,
Elder Whitney

Hey hey family!
I’m doing really good here in good ol Santiago... Its getting really cold, its bearable, but everyone acts like they are in Antarctica.

That’s really cool that you got to go visit Lisa and them, how are they doing? That’s way weird that Alyssa graduated, she seems so much younger than me.. I’m sure you mean that they live in Lindon and not London, you spelled London twice ha.

This week was really good, we found a lot of new potential investigators. We are teaching this mom and her two kids and they all accepted baptism dates so they are hopefully going to get baptized within the next couple weeks. Changes were last night, and I stayed with my comp, so I’m way excited. I have to kill him though, cause he goes home this change. ( that’s what killing means here in the mission field) That’s going to be really weird.. We have a really good time together though he is way tight..

Thanks so much for the package! I got it last Tuesday.. I have already eaten most of the stuff ha-ha but thank you a ton.. All the pics and stuff are perfect. My last comp from Buenos aires gave me that same jersey Mike is wearing in one of those pics cause he hates that team so that’s pretty tight. My Spanish is doing ok.. I cant really say if its good or bad cause some days its good and some days its bad.. I’m still learning a lot though..

The world cup is crazy down here, Chile plays the 16th at 730 in the morning, I want to see it way bad but whatever.. We actually saw a little bit of this other game with Italy and Paraguay at lunch.

I’m not sure when fathers day is, but happy fathers day dad! I love you and I am way grateful for everything you have done for me, I’m way thankful that I always had a way good dad to keep me where I needed to be. That’s way awesome about Maddie, it sounds like she is doing really really good. I’m sure she is loving her mission. I need to write her back soon, I never have any time! Its way fun living where I’m at, and there are some way awesome people in our ward. I’m not in the same ward I’m just in the same stake... so I’m going to be able to see the other members at like stake activities and stuff and when I do divisions. In this mission, all the wards and their limits are the sectors, so its really easy.

Well here are some more pics, I took some really sweet pictures this week. The ferria in this sector is so giant and cool, I’m not sure if I told you about the ferria but its seriously so cool... Well got to go but tell hi to everyone, I love you !! chow

Hello Family!
That’s way sweet about the fire station and that statue is awesome. I had no idea that grandpa was so loved by the community and by the fire station. That’s so awesome that they named it after grandpa. Things look like they are doing really good over there.

So last p-day I was walking with my 2 companions... Ya I was in a trio for a while cause elder Macias’s comp got way sick and he was sick for like 4 weeks so he finally had to go home. So I was with the 2 zone leaders for a couple days... but anyways the assistants called my comp and wanted to talk to me... I got ANOTHER SPECIAL CHANGE. I have never had a normal change yet in my mission. I had to pack all my stuff and everything in one night and after lunch the next day the assistants were going to come and pick me up. I only got to say goodbye to the Contreras family and the bishop and his family and all the other elders at zone class. It was pretty hard to say goodbye to my converts. We were way close and I was a part of their family. It was the coolest thing to watch their life change and to experiment all the things I did with them. I never thought in my life that I would cry while saying goodbye, but I did shed a few tears. They were way sad too. I called Christian because he was working when I went over there, but he told me that I helped their family so much and that I would always be a part of it. They told me to thank you guys also, so here is their thanks!

Well I got changed to El valle.. (the valley) its another ward in my first stake La reina. Its going to be so cool to see my converts and all the members I met, again. My comp is elder Valverde from Ecuador. He is way awesome, and way funny. We get along way good. He actually speaks pretty good English too, its funny to hear him talk. Its so sweet cause I’m living with elder Boyce and elder Barney. Boyce was in my district in the MTC and we are way tight. I arrived here with elder Barney too. Its so fun in the pension ha-ha.

El valle is way awesome too, its a pretty big sector, a lot bigger than my last one. Its super super ghetto too, their are a ton of gangsters. Someone threw a rock at us the other day. We had like almost no investigators when I first got here, so like all we did this week was knock and try and contact old investigadores. It was pretty tough but I know I’m going to love this ward. The bishop is way awesome too, I’m lucking out on all the awesome bishops that I have.

Sunday this lady we are teaching came to church with her daughter that is 9 years. Hopefully her and her family all get baptized soon.

That’s a really cool experience with Alex, that kind of stuff always happens. That’s too bad about Preston, does he go to seminary and all that stuff? I think all kids go through that phase, I did too for a long time, but ya I’m definitely going to write him next week.

Mike looks like he is balling it up in Buenos Aires, the old guy in his picture reminds me of this 98 year old lady in our ward that is hilarious. She hits people with her cane, and I seriously think she could run if she wanted, she is so healthy. She will hit you with her cane and when you look over she looks a way and keeps a straight face.

Today for p-day we played basketball with some other elders and made tacos at the church.
Tell Brigham and Caleb that I love them and tell them to keep working hard. Maddie wrote me last week so I’m going to write her back soon, it sounds like she is doing really good though.
I love all you guys and hope that everything goes good!!!

June 1, 2010

Hello beloved family,
I’m doing pretty good, this week ended a little discouraging just because not a lot of people came to church but still I seriously saw miracles this week, it was really good. Hopefully we have some baptisms the last day of the change. This week we also had our zone conference. It was way good, president called us to repentance a lot ha but it was way powerful. The zone conference was on the holy ghost which is chapter 4 in preach my gospel, but I learned that we should pray after we plan to ask God if there is something more that we should do for the following day.

One night after planning we prayed and the face of this one less active member lady came to my mind. That night we left with the bishop to go to this other lady but she wasn’t there so we were driving around and I remembered about that lady so we went over there and she was way happy that we came over cause she use to be a teacher in primary. She was telling us how she taught the bishops kids and everything and she found out that they were on missions and married and stuff. We had a way good lesson and she wants to return to church with her little girl.

The other day we found this family and they have this 9 year old girl. Me and my old comp had taught her before but we never found her after that. Well we taught her and seriously her answers to some of the things we asked her were so amazing. I gave her a blessing after that cause her ears were hurting her way bad and she wrote me a little note that told me she was way thankful I came over and stuff and prayed for her, it was so awesome. We went back the very next day and taught her whole family but they definitely have problems. Her dad is this drunk and her mom is a little crazy. But she gave the last prayer and she asked god to help her dad stop drinking and stuff and that it really hurts her when he drinks and stuff and she started crying. I almost started crying too, but I love being a missionary it is one the the most beautiful things in the world, to share the gospel with people and see them change. I know that girl is going to get baptized cause God has prepared her to accept the gospel in her life.

This other elder was sick for like 4 weeks and the doctors never found anything wrong so they sent him home, and now I’m in a trio with the other lider de zona. I’m going to be staying in this other pension the next 2 weeks, its kind of weird being in a trio. We also taught this black lady from south Africa that doesn’t really speak Spanish but she speaks French. The other zone lider happened to have a book of mormos in France and she is reading a ton and she went to church and everything. It was so cool to hear her read in French.

Its freezing here every morning and night. Thanks for sending my package I’m excited to get it! Well I got to go but I love you guys! I hope everything turns out good with your work dad.. Chow!

Hola Family and everyone else!

This week was pretty good, we did a ton of teaching and all that good stuff, but we’re kind of worried cause we’re not seeing a lot of fruits. We have found a lot of new investigators to which is way awesome.

We went to the temple Thursday and it was way good! We went as a zone and it was really nice to get away for a little bit. That’s way tight about Levi and New York, that’s crazy he was in the MTC for so long, that place is way cool but so weird and it gets old after a while. I bet he is a little bummed after studying Greek for that long having to switch languages ha-ha. New York would be way sick though.

It rained here pretty hard almost all day and now the mountains are way pretty and they are covered in snow. Its way super cold here now especially at night and in the mornings. But its all good cause the jacket I have is way good and warm. I love wearing my scarf now too, I’m totally going to wear a scarf after my mission now. That’s cool that the air conditioner got installed, I bet its way nice now, I would give anything for central heating. Its nice in the united states cause when you are cold you can just go inside, but here its still way cold inside ha-ha.

Wow that’s awesome that their pool is done, that is going to be awesome when I get back.. Thanks for buying me some thermal garments, maybe you could buy me some more music? There’s not really that much that you could buy me that I can’t buy here, except food ha-ha. Maybe some more music? I really like that guitar cd you bought me. Maybe more photos of home, oh yes, I really need a plastic measuring cup like the ones that are a little bigger, that measure in cups. I need that so I can make my brownies!

Wow that’s crazy that Highland lost, and I cant believe that Brett favres going to play again, speaking of Brett favre look at my pictures! This morning we played football again and went shopping and we just got here to do internet. That’s sweet that Preston got to kiss a chick in the school play, I cant really picture Preston acting, but that’s way awesome that he is Romeo, I want to see him.. That’s really good that Maddie is getting better, I put her name in the temple when I went Thursday.. After the temple we went up to visit this elder in our zone that’s in the hospital, he has been sick for like the last month and the doctors don’t know what he has, but he is always throwing up and stuff its sad, cause he only has like 4 more months.

I’m getting along pretty good with my comp, if I don’t do something like perfectly right he gets on me though, which is good I guess cause I need to get better. I did division the other day with this kid from Canada and he has like 13 months on the mission, but it was really good, I felt I did pretty good leading the sector, well I got to go but here a a few pics that I have took recently. I love you! I hope that you have a really good week! I know the Lord is blessing you guys and me.

Hello!
My week was pretty good, we taught a lot of lessons and stuff but it was kind of disappointing Saturday because Felipe that boy we are teaching didn’t pass his interview and he is like not really wanting to get baptized anymore, were going to have a family home evening with that family tonight, so hopefully we can encourage him. That’s cool that you had all those conferences, I have never heard of that guy before. I think this change for our zone conference we are going to have someone pretty big come, I don’t know who yet though.

Friday was like one of the toughest days that I have had in my mission. It seemed like everything was turning out bad, and every time I said something nobody understood me! I was about to kill someone.. not really but maybe! Yesterday, we had a family home evening with the familia Contreras and they are doing really good. Its just hard cause they fight alot and there is like nothing we can do. We like want to prepare them for the temple, but sometimes I feel like there isn’t enough love between them to make that step.

This morning we played soccer with all the zone again and Christian Contreras came and he played with us for a while, it was way tight. I heard they changed a word in the temple or something? I’m going Thursday in the morning and its going to be so hard to notice in Spanish.

Preston is playing Romeo in a play? ha-ha that’s cool, I didn’t even know he was in to drama and stuff like that. You need me to take the boat out for you if your not going to do it! That’s something I definitely miss.. It rained a ton here the other day and it was pretty cold every day this week. Today everyone said it was going to be freezing but it was actually way hot today. That’s way crazy about Kennedy, I figured it was way ghetto in the Philippines. I’m pretty lucky here in Chile. Our mission is actually way rich.

I had an interview with the president Sunday and for some reason I was way nervous. But he told me that I need to use this time as a springboard for the rest of my mission because I was going to have to take more responsibility and be a leader soon! I’m pretty nervous I have no clue what’s going to happen. Maybe I’m going to be district leader or something..

I bought this way sick colo colo jersey this week for 20 bucks. Its way good because usually they are like 60 70 bucks. That’s too bad for the Jazz I kind of knew that they would get swept. I’m excited for the world cup, everyone is going crazy here. Well I gotta go but I love you! Have fun this week! Chow

We talked to Elder Whitney on the phone for mothers day for an hour and a half. So not much too say this week.

It was awesome talking to you for a little bit to see how you guys are doing! Today for p-day we played soccor for a while and now were going to make tacos. I'm excited to eat tacos, I miss mexican food. There isn't any here. Well thanks for everything, I will write you next week! Bye! I love you!

Hello dearest family,
I’m doing really good here, We had changes last night and my comp elder Simbaña left! So we had to pack all his things and we got to bed at like 1, so this morning we went to the meetings and my new companion is from Buenos Aires! He seems way tight, I’m glad because my Spanish is going to keep getting a lot better. I’m really glad I stayed here though I love this ward.

Last night we went to some investigators house, and we had this way good lesson with a member of the bishopric but after all that they told us that they didn’t want to continue! it was so gay, I don’t know what we did wrong. We’re going to go to the temple with them for one last time to show them around and stuff before they quit on us so hopefully they get an answer there and feel the spirit really strong. Mom I have no idea what we are going to do for mothers day. I will let you know on Wednesday ok? My comp doesn’t know either, he is the new zone leader here, but were going to come to the internet place Wednesday to let you know! I’m way excited to talk to you guys, I cant believe it has been 6 months since the last time. I won’t be able to speak English very good ha-ha.

That 8 year old boy didn’t get baptized cause he drank tea! Almost all the people in that house are members so i don’t know how they let him drink tea when they knew he was going to get baptized! This week we went to a birthday party of the girl of a family we are teaching. It was way fun and they gave us lots of cake to take home. We took a lot of photos of the members just in case we were going to leave so I will send you more photos next week.

I have no clue what I want you to send me... I will think really hard what I want this week. Perhaps some music or something I don’t know... How is your cheek and knee dad? Can you walk fine and everything now? I need to exercise more in the mornings, I’m getting a little bit of a stomach. Its so hard in the mornings when its freezing cold. That’s cool about Darrin Williams, but that sucks they have to play the Lakers now. Especially without Okur. I’m really starting to like watching football (soccer) down here, because its the only thing there is. A ton of kids in the ward play a ton and are way good. There are cements fields here everywhere. Like as in 6 just right by our house. There’s always kid playing.

The weather actually hasn’t been that cold during the day. Its actually been pretty hot still. I remember one night though where I rolled over and my cheek felt the metal of our bunk bed and it seriously was the coldest thing I have ever felt before. Yes I know exactly who those men are mom. Oden played college like 2 years ago and was drafted out of Oklahoma or somewhere like that. Gasoul is from Spain, and Bynum is just a tall black guy that is way good.

That’s really cool the Iron man was in ST. George, where did they have all the tracks and stuff? And where did they swim? I will kill myself if I had to do that. There is an elder that is huge here but he didn’t play for BYU, he played for rugby Highland..

I have to go but thanks mom and dad and Brig and Caleb for everything that you have done for me, I love you! Work hard and good luck at your track meet Caleb!

Hola coma estan family,

This week was pretty hard and we didn’t teach that much but it was still really good. Thanks for sending all those letters last week, I guess it sounded like I didn’t want to read other letters from my friends but I do so thanks. I hadn’t heard anything about Ben challis forever so it was cool to read his letter.

This week it started to get cold. It rained finally, the first day on my mission. It was actually hailing pretty hard too but we were inside studying, but it was really cool. I was so sick of sun every single day. It has been really cloudy and gray this week. Its pretty cold in the mornings and in the nights. Nothing way cold yet but still really fresc. The Chileans act like they live in the Rockies during winter right now. Last night it seriously wasn’t even that cold and everyone had these huge jackets with scarves. Elder aren’t you so cold! umm.... no its like 65 degrees.... ha-ha its pretty funny.

I ate some bad empanadas at the mission conference we had and I was a little sick this week. I threw up a ton one night but everything is all good now. The weather in St. George seems really good. It’s weird that it’s almost summer again. Marissas baby looks way cute! Are they living in Las Vegas still? That’s really cool that Kennedy comes home this week. I remember her leaving when we were working at the golf course, there is no way that has been a year and a half.

So dad didn’t get any turkeys again? He needs to just buy a sniper rifle and shoot them like that.. To answer your question about my room.. no its almost always clean... on my side. My companion is ridiculously messy. I did all this cleaning this morning in the kitchen and it was like all his mess. I’m not that messy anymore.. only a little...

Our investigators are doing ok, they didn’t come to church Sunday because she had a headache or something so they cant get baptized the 25th anymore which... isn’t good. Something way funny happened though this week. We were at our recent converts house and that same family called us and asked us if we wanted to drink tea with them. That same night we were going to teach them the word of wisdom ha. So my comp told them that we really like echo, which is this natural wheat drink that a lot of people like here, and that we can drink, and so they were like oh ok perfect. So we went over there and there was absolutely no echo and we were like ok we have to teach them right now, but they came out with more stuff and I found a pack of hot chocolate and I said to my comp ok after we eat we will teach them now since there is other stuff besides tea. I thought my companion was going to grab the other pack of hot chocolate but he grabbed this pack with strawberries on the front and he told me it wasn’t tea but only a strawberry drink. So were drinking and eating and I look on the back of my comps wrapper and it was all in English and it was 100 percent tea ha-ha. With the little bag and everything. He drank like two packs of tea and he thought it was something else. I was like laughing in my head and wondering what we were going to do because we couldn’t teach them not to drink tea right after my comp drank two packs! She ended up having a lot of questions about something else so we didn’t teach it to them that night but still it was really funny for me. I told some members and they were all teasing him.

I got to see a little bit of the Celtics game because we were at a house and they put it on. I freaked out cause they were channel surfing and I just see this basketball game out of the corner of my eye. I haven’t even seen a basketball for so long. We had a zone activity this morning and we played soccer at the church it was way fun. We also bought this cake for the elder from Spain. It was his birthday. That’s too bad about the jazz. I was really excited hearing that they were in third place and all that.

My shoes give me the worst blisters now. They feel so weird after the guy fixed them. My feet were literally bleeding today. I’m wearing my other shoes right now but they are cracked super bad too on the bottom. I don’t want to buy other shoes cause I just spent 25 bucks to replace the bottoms of my others! Hopefully my blisters go away.. I haven’t been to good on my exercises lately it is so hard cause I’m always super tired when I first wake up and its freezing cold. I’m going to start doing a lot though. I weigh like 190 pounds now. My stomach is fat from all the food I eat.

Well I got to go but thanks for everything that you have done for me. I love you and I know what I am doing is definitely right. I know without a doubt that the church is really the church of Jesus Christ and that Thomas S. monson really does talk to God. He receives revelation for us. I’m a servant of Jesus Christ and the most important thing I can do in this life is be a disciple of our Lord and Savior.

Chowitos! ¡Que esten super bien y que dios les bendigas!

Hola family coma esta?
Things are going good here! Oh a Chilean mullet is just a mullet, all the soccer players have them. but anyways ya conference was way good. That’s too bad that dad and the boys missed the priesthood sessions. It was one of the best that I have ever seen. It was way good. All of the gringo missionaries watched conference in another room with soft chairs and a big table in English! It’s so much better in English seriously. Sunday morning I watched it in español cause we had investigators there, and it just wasn’t as good. Sometimes its a little hard to understand too. It would be so hard to be a translator.

I’m a little frustrated with my Spanish. I really feel like my mouth doesn’t let me speak very good. I’m reading out loud everyday and trying to work on my pronunciation but I really just cant say some words and phrases clearly. Its really frustrating. Tomorrow we have our interviews with the president so that should be good.

That family that came with us to the conference was another new husband and wife that we are teaching. We went with this recent convert to teach them the other day and I extended the baptismal compromise and they both accepted so that was pretty sweet. Hopefully we have a couple more baptisms this change.

I can’t imagine being in Russia trying to find people to teach. It would be so hard. I’m sure he is going to find people soon. Some times its really rough and you just want to yell at all the people that deny you.

The hike looks pretty cool, exactly what I would imagine between St. George and Lake Powell. Its weird that I’m going to be in pure city with people everywhere for two years. There actually is a sector where its all farm and like little rivers but its pretty rare if you get it. Ya I’m usually one the tallest people here, unless I’m by another elder, There are some huge elders here.

I forgot it was Easter until the day after Easter. This week is called semana santa and a lot of people don’t eat meat this week to show respect or something. We had a pretty good Easter lunch between conferences too. This lady made us Chinese food. Finally a break from chicken and rice every single day!!! Today at the mall I found those cleaner things for my razor so I bought them, they happened to be twenty bucks so thank you for the present! I haven’t had to speak at sacrament meeting yet, and we do our internet at this internet cafe place thingy by our house. They are all over Chile. Chile is the number one user of face book.

Last night there was a way strong aftershock but it was way short, it seriously was so weird. I heard there was an earthquake in Los Angeles? that’s pretty crazy. Good luck dad on your knee, that sounds painful, but hopefully it doesn’t hurt after that. My knees haven’t been hurting or anything so that’s good. When is mothers day forgot? I’m way excited to talk to you guys! it feels like it was just a couple weeks ago that we talked for Christmas.

That’s crazy about the ncaa tourny, and Michael Vick. I think I had a dream about the eagles last night actually for some odd reason. well it was good talking to you, I love you and thanks for all your many oraciones (prayers)! Oren por favor para que yo pueda hablar y pronunciar mejor el idioma Gracia!!!

Familia Whitney the pooh,

That’s what everyone calls me here. Things are going good and we had two baptisms Sunday! finally... The wife almost didn’t get baptized because she is deathly afraid of the water. But everything turned out really good. That one guy in my old ward who we were teaching in English got baptized too, I’m going to send you the pictures, you will freak out. The guy has way long hair and some sister missionaries convinced him to cut his hair, they said it was the hardest thing they have done on the mission. The last time he got a haircut was when he was 13.

I went to get my carnet this week too (ID card) I had to wake up at 4:55 and be to the office by 7. It was cool though seeing all the missionaries who I arrived here with. We have lots of other investigators but they aren’t progressing very good, or coming to church. Its frustrating cause we had this way spiritual lesson with this family and watched the restoration and I felt the spirit way way strong and they didn’t feel anything. People still have agency to not accept the holy ghost in their hearts.

Our zone is way different now and a lot of the elders I was friends with left. Its ok though cause two that are way cool stayed. Every p-day we go to that huge mall and eat. Today I had KFC. It was really good. I bought Maple syrup today in the American isle because I miss pancakes and waffles and French toast so bad. It was like more than 4 bucks for a bottle of cheap great value Walmart syrup. I’m going to make French toast this week. I don’t have cinnamon though which sucks.

In the photo the names of those two boys are Ian and Felipe. Ian is tight, Felipe is his cousin and is 8 years old and we want to baptize him but his mom is dumb. I cant believe Brett Favre wants to try and play again. I thought for sure after what happened last year there was no way. That’s way cool that the jazz are doing good. We were at an investigators house and highlights of basketball came on and I saw that guy who you told me about who might steal the MVP away from Lebron James.

When is Easter? I seriously forgot and have no clue. Here there is something called semana santa and I think it is kind of the same thing about Jesus Christ. I finished reading Jesus the Christ and the rest of the mission library. I want to buy other books but they are not allowed.

My Spanish is doing ok I guess. I can have a conversation with people and understand most everything but still is hard not to think in English and I don’t know how to say a lot of things yet. or express certain ideas. Sounds like Madison is doing good, her emails are so much bigger than mine because she types so much faster!! ok I love you guys and thank you so much for everything! P.S I’m going to grow a mullet when I get home. A Chilean mullet.
